Thanks to the app, my husband and three young kids were able to follow me and show up at the right spot at the right time (which is a challenge with 3 young kids), so my boys were able to finish with me! A great experience and a great memory for the rest of my life. Thanks for helping to make that possible!” –  Petrie T.

Madison Marathon Ran with RaceJoy!

HomeLogo.png

Ever run a race and wish you had a little help from your friends or a way to motivate you through a rough spot? Well, that is what RaceJoy was built for and this last weekend’s Madison Marathon and Half Marathon participants made full use of it!

Picture2.png

During the Madison Marathon weekend, nearly 3,000 people used RaceJoy and more than 4,300 motivational audio cheers were sent real-time!

Ashley D. ran her first half marathon, using RaceJoy to connect with her daughter. Here’s her RaceJoy story…

“This was my first ever run, and I went straight for the Madison Half Marathon. I also injured my hip just before mile 6, and by mile 8 and 9 I was ready to quit – at the very least not able to run anymore. Just as I was telling myself to make it until help came around, a cheer was read that had come from my daughter – and it made all the difference. Although I had to continue walking, I was able to pick up speed, and complete the 13.1 miles within a reasonable amount of my original goal. Knowing they were there waiting, I knew I couldn’t quit. Thank you for making this available to us!”

— Ashley D.

Thank you Ashley for sharing your experience and congratulations on your first half marathon!

RaceJoy issued progress updates at every mile during the full and half marathon courses. Alerts included information like current location, pace and estimated finish time. More than 37,400 GPS-based progress alerts were sent at the Madison Marathon weekend. Now that’s a lot of updates!

picture3

Another Madison Marathon runner, in his 17th marathon, used RaceJoy for the first time last weekend…

I downloaded the app for the first time for a race this weekend. I used the progress report, cheers and tracking features for my family. It was great. I had no technical issues and I could leave my phone in the back of my belt pouch and still hear the updates and the cheers come through. This is a great tool. And the cheer feature would be awesome on courses where it is hard for spectators to get around or if you are at a race solo.”

Here at RaceJoy, we love hearing runners’ stories – share yours at rockstar@racejoy.com. And help us to spread the word by sharing your experience in the App store!

RaceJoy Transitioning to “Free Only” Experience for Participants and Spectators

RunSignUp is changing RaceJoy’s business model to offer a “free only” experience for participants and spectators. Previously, race events were able to either purchase the buyout option or choose a consumer model where the participant and spectator paid an in-app upgrade fee of 99 cents for RaceJoy’s features. Key user features include continuous live tracking, GPS-based progress alerts and cheer sending.

The consumer model option will be phased out by the end of 2016 and will only be available for 2016 events that have already been loaded into RaceJoy. Going forward, race events that wish to have RaceJoy’s innovative race day experience will be required to offer the experience as a free service by purchasing the buyout option. RaceJoy’s pricing is set to be affordable for any race and includes significant value for the race itself.

picture1

Why are we doing this?

Consistent Experience

There are many reasons that led to the decision to move to this free-to-consumers model. One of the main motivations is to ease user confusion and potential frustration – participants and spectators are often confused when some races are providing free tracking and cheers and others are not. Having a consistent, “always free” app will help overcome this.

Affordable Innovation

Participants are expecting some type of tracking to be provided and RaceJoy offers the most innovative solution in the industry. The buyout price is competitively set so that any race can afford to purchase the buyout or have a sponsor cover the cost.

Higher Engagement

In addition, those races that choose the buyout can more easily promote the availability of RaceJoy to all of their participants and spectators. We have seen much wider adoption and better feedback for races who offer a free option.

Race Value

Another key reason for this adjustment is that RaceJoy is offering a lot of value not just to the participants and their supporting family and friends, but for the race as well. From sponsor promotion to race day monitoring, we are continuing to build and expand the features that help race operations. All of this requires significant resources in development and support. Some key offerings available through RaceJoy for the race and sponsor include:

Race Day Monitoring:

The RaceJoy Race Day Monitoring tool provides organizers with the ability to track runners/cyclists and operational staff live from a web console and have immediate access to information to manage race operations and respond to race day conditions. See more about this tool by reading this blog…

Value for Sponsors:

RaceJoy provides a powerful way to provide sponsor promotion with a highly engaged and expanded audience through in-app advertising and branding opportunities.

picture4

Race Promotion:

RaceJoy provides an opportunity for the race to attract more registrants and to reach each participants’ network of family and friends through its race listing in RaceJoy, social media promotion and through every GPS-based progress alert issued on the course.

picture2

Race Operations Management:

RaceJoy offers the ability for organizers to track the location of key race operations like the Lead and Tail vehicle and to communicate with them. And, the Race News Alert system makes for a very useful emergency communications tool, and to inform races about race day changes or key information like parking and packet pickup.

Picture3.png

And yes, all of this is included in the buyout price. So, not only are races able to offer the most advanced form of tracking available in the market, they are able to then use this to help with their own management of race day.

Thank you, race organizers, for embracing RaceJoy and providing a one-of-a-kind race day experience and for your dedication to quality and innovation. Together, we are changing the race experience!

Kensington Marathon Delivers Mobile Results in RaceJoy!

2016 KM Logo-01

This past weekend the Kensington Marathon in Milford, Michigan offered RaceJoy as part of its service for participants and spectators. Runners and supporting friends and family were treated to RaceJoy’s advanced GPS tracking, every mile progress alerts and cheers. In addition, the race delivered scored results through RaceJoy providing participants with quick and convenient access to their finisher information.

kensingtonphone.png

The Kensington Marathon is one of the first races to offer RaceJoy’s mobile delivery of results through RunSignUp’s Race Day Results and uses Agee Race Timing for scoring the event. At this year’s race, organizers took advantage of delivering results through multiple platforms – including the race website, RunSignUp’s site, and now through mobile with RaceJoy.

RaceJoy’s mobile results are displayed in a user-friendly way, allowing participants to quickly see Overall Results, Age-Group Division results, and Individual results. This creates an efficient way for timers and race organizers to get results data out to finishers. Especially since one of the first things people tend to do after a race is look at their phones!

results

Supporting spectators, both onsite and from the convenience of their homes, were also able to track participants in real-time with RaceJoy’s live phone tracking feature. RaceJoy’s live tracking allows spectators to see exactly where a runner is during the race by tracking the participant’s phone and displaying their location in an interactive view of the course.

track

Participants and spectators could also receive RaceJoy’s GPS-based progress alerts that were sent out at every mile! These updates include performance information like pace, current location and estimated finish time. RaceJoy issued almost 2,300 progress alerts across the multiple courses!

alert

Participants have the option to post these alerts in real-time to their personal Facebook and Twitter walls.

fb

Friends and family sent hundreds of cheers in RaceJoy, including personalized text-to-cheers, over the course of the weekend! What great encouragement from friends and family!

The Kensington Marathon is organized by Ribbit Running Company. Special thanks to Ribbit Running Company for embracing RaceJoy and its new results technology!

The delivery of mobile results in RaceJoy is available for RunSignUp’s events that use its Race Day Results solution. See this press release for additional information.
